Family’s Labor of Love Invites Hospitality

Creating a welcoming space to host guests

When Nike executive Fabiola Torres and her husband, tequila developer Jaime Carrera, began their home search, they knew it would have to be a cut above, both in form and function. Fabiola ran all Niketown locations, ensuring they were “pretty and profitable,” so her aesthetic tastes were impeccable – and high.

The couple needed enough space to accommodate their three young boys, as well as a live-in nanny. An excellent school district was important to them. They wanted a location with a view; Jaime desired a space to sit out back and host tastings of his tequilas.

Contemporary home in the clouds

This lovely property above Forest Heights hit every item on their wish list, and they soon set out to make it theirs with even more upgrades. Several years later, a job change is now relocating the family to Los Angeles. As tough as it is for them to move on, it means they leave behind a home that will delight the most discriminating of home seekers.

Enjoying a prime location on the corner of a quiet, safe cul-de-sac off Skyline Blvd, the tri-level home boasts lots of light and spacious living areas. Each space opens seamlessly into the next. French doors off the living room lead out to a patio overlooking the Willamette Valley.

Room to relax in the media/game room

Improvements were geared toward polishing the look of each space and maximizing comfort for the many guests the family regularly welcomed. The kitchen, bathrooms and fireplace all saw updates, and the addition of a wet bar and media and game room to the lower level provided yet another area for private entertaining.

Final touches like lighting from Restoration Hardware freshened the interior. The additions of an outdoor fountain and covered gazebo to the backyard completed the tranquil surroundings.

The flow of the open floor plan enabled Fabiola and Jaime to comfortably host gatherings of 20-25 guests for Super Bowl parties, New Year’s Eve celebrations, and Jaime’s regular Thursday domino tournaments. while still managing to separate noise and activity between areas.

“This was the perfect home for us to entertain a lot of families at once, along with their kids,” says Fabiola.

The next owners of this choice property will undoubtedly enjoy the same opportunities for hospitality and reap the benefits from the pride so clearly taken in this stunner of a home.
